Community Garden
Rules and Application
Please read the following rules before applying for a Community Garden plot by submitting the form below. There is no application fee this year (2025).
Gardeners will help keep pathways tended and pick up litter whenever they are on site.
Gardeners will dispose of weeds and dead plants in the trash bin provided. Diseased plants or seedy and invasive weeds will be bagged and placed in the trash bin to avoid further contamination.
Gardeners will not pick anything from another plot without expressed permission of the garden manager.
The water supply is for garden-use only. Water will not be left unattended or be used as drinking water. After use, the hose will be rolled up and returned to proper storage.
Gardeners will promptly harvest their mature crops from their own beds to avoid nuisance insects, rodents, and theft. Food grown is the property of those who grew it.
Gardeners will not plant tall crops that shade neighboring plots.
Gardeners will not bring pets to the garden. Companioning pets must be caged or leashed.
Garden tools will be returned to proper storage after use.
Children under 18 will be supervised by an adult to ensure plants are not damaged. Children under 18 are not allowed to run tillers or other motor-powered tools.
Planting illegal plants is strictly prohibited.
Smoking and chewing tobacco is strictly prohibited. (Tobacco can transmit lethal viruses to plants.)
Consuming drugs or alcohol is strictly prohibited.
Radios, speakers, or other loud listening devices are strictly prohibited.
Person who are intoxicated or under the influence of drugs are not allowed in the garden.
No fires are allowed on the property.
The usage of pesticides and weed control chemicals should be limited to one’s garden bed only, and care should be taken not to spread such to other plots.
Guests are welcome but must abide by the same rules are gardeners. Gardeners are responsible for the actions of their guests.
Gardening is only allowed during daylight hours. We recommend gardening in pairs with a cell phone close by in case of emergencies.
Theft, vandalism, or other unusual activity will be reported to the Church Office and the police.
Gardeners who are unable to tend their plot for whatever reason will request help from other gardeners or, by written notice to the garden manager, will name a designee who will be responsible for maintenance for no more than up to two (2) weeks. Additional time must be approved by the garden manager.
Gardeners will notify the garden manager if they abandon their plot for any reason.
Common courtesy is expected. Be considerate of other gardeners.
At the end of the growing season, all dead plants and non-plant materials (e.g. string, wire, wood, metal, plastic) must be removed and disposed of properly. Garden plots will be left neat and tidy. Gardeners will help on one of the closing workdays; failure to do so may result in forfeiting access to the garden the following year.
Violation of these rules may result in an immediate suspension of gardening privileges for the remainder of the gardening season or the following year.
Understanding that the Community Garden group and the land owners are not responsible for the actions or accidents of others, gardeners agree to hold harmless United Methodist Church of the Cross and its members any liability for damage, loss, or claim that occurs in connection with the use of the garden by themselves or their guests.
